How to Pick the Perfect Patio Furniture for the Season

It’s that time of year – the sun is coming out of the clouds, the birds are chirping, and the flowers finally starting to bloom.  As we watch the seasons change and the weather gets warm, it’s hard not to think about spending time outside.  If you’ve got a patio, it’s probably something that you’ve already been thinking about.

Obviously, we don’t necessarily need to buy new furniture every year.  However, if you’ve already thinking about replacing yours, or if you moved into a new space and hadn’t thought about it yet, then this is the article for you!  Let’s look at how we can pick something that suits our style and will last a long time.

Think about the Physical Space

The last thing that anyone wants to happen is that you buy a bunch of beautiful furniture pieces but realize they don’t even fit on your patio.  No matter where you are, whether you’re renting or you’re in your own home, it’s a good idea to start out by getting some measurements of the area you’re wanting to decorate.  It’s a pretty standard step, really, as you can see here: https://www.realhomes.com/advice/transform-the-exterior-of-your-home.

This way, you can prevent that situation from happening at all!  When you’re going shopping, whether it’s online or at a brick-and-mortar store, keep those measurements on hand.  Do your best to check out the measurements of any pieces that you’re buying, too.

Do You Want to Go with a Theme?

Outdoor living spaces really do allow us to tap into all sorts of possibilities.  Of course, they do tend to raise a lot of questions along the way.  One of those is whether or not we want to go for a specific theme with our patio or if we’d prefer to mix and match!

This is going to be up to your own personal preferences at the end of the day.  If you enjoy a nautical theme, for example, then you might be looking for furniture that fits that vision.  Anyone who’s a bit more flexible looking for patio furniture ideas, though, and this can certainly open up the floodgate of ideas even further!

Don’t limit your options if you don’t have to.  There are all sorts of pieces out there that can fit into pretty much any design scheme!  You can even find whole sets that match if that’s your style.  Of course, feel free to customize those sorts of things and mix and match your selections as well.

What “Vibe” are You Aiming For?

This is a pretty broad category in terms of how we can use it to approach our design plans for an outdoor space.  First, you can think about it in regard to what you want to use your patio for.  Will it be for quiet nights between you and your partner?  Will it be for parties and entertaining family?

These factors can play a pretty big part in what styles of furniture that you go for, not to mention the rest of the design of the area.  For example, if you’re after privacy, you put up some screens or something like that to keep the area shielded from prying eyes.  For parties, though, that wouldn’t really be applicable.

Now, if you’re looking for a bit of additional inspiration, this article might be able to help you out.  Floorplans and the like aren’t always the easiest things to draw without references, after all.  While it might not seem overly necessary to make one, they can be surprisingly useful when you’re shopping.

The main takeaway here, though, is that you’ll want to pick a set or pieces of furniture that suit the purpose of your patio.  Additionally, consider the sorts of styles that you like.  Color can also be pretty important, so don’t forget that sort of thing.

While most of us probably wouldn’t buy a bunch of furniture in a color that we hate anyway, try to remember that you’re creating a holistic space.  Ideally, everything that you add will be cohesive to some extent.  They don’t have to be completely matchy-matchy, of course, but try to avoid making it too disjointed.

Lastly, don’t lose sight of the fact that you’re trying to create an outdoor space for you and any guests to enjoy.  Adding in functional pieces that are also comfortable can really help with that sort of goal, for one thing.  Even beyond that, though, you can also add in things like a fireplace or a cooler to store drinks – that sort of stuff.

Even a little net to play birdie or volleyball can be fun if you’ve got the space!  Try different combinations and think about what will be best for you and your family.
